Import KVM Config Files (XML)

Postby mariusw on Tue Mar 09, 2010 1:56 am

Ive installed Convirt 2.0 on a RedHat 5.4 x64 server and it looks to be up and running smoothly.

I added some RHEL 5.3 x64 servers with Xen - and imported the config files manually using the gui config file browser and that also worked perfectly as far as Im able to tell..

When trying to import the config files from my 2 RHEL 5.4 x64 KVM Hosts on the other hand I run into trouble...

Error adding file, /etc/libvirt/qemu/name_of_kvm_guest.xml. invalid syntax (line 1)

Line 1 reads <domain type='kvm'>

Not sure if this is a problem with the import script or what gives, but any input would be appreciated.
We are looking into trying out the Enterprise version to handle our Linux VMs - but before commiting to that we need to make sure it works as it should

Hi
It looks like you are trying to import the virt-manager/libvirt created config files. This is not directly supported. Could u attach your config files.. if not, send me via private messaging feature of the forum. A lot of people are running in to this... let me see if we can do something here. (no promises though :) )

Yes I was just trying to import the virsh/libvirt created config files - guess I could use the xml-converter software to try and get a regular text file from this - but I think importing regular virsh/libvirt XMLs should be supported, atleast when you are moving into the Enterprise market where we are prospective clients :-)

Havent gotten any replies as to if/when this is going to be supported, or how to do a workaround, but hoping we will get some more information soon...

Of course I could just do a rewrite of the config file - create a regular xen style config just to import it into the panel.. but that isnt really "Enterprise" material :D
